Located in the northern part of the state, and county seat of Nez Perce County, is beautiful Lewiston, Idaho. The ninth-largest city in Idaho, Lewiston is home to an estimated 32,401 residents as of 2013. Because of its geographical location and mild climate, locals and visitors are afforded a wide-variety of outdoor recreational opportunities, such as camping, jet boating, whitewater rafting, hiking, golfing and baseball.
Collegiate baseball has been a strong tradition in Lewiston for many years. From 1984 to 1991, Lewiston’s Lewis-Clark State College has been the host of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Baseball World Series championship. After a being hosted in Iowa, Oklahoma and Florida for a brief time, the NAIA Baseball World Series returned Lewis-Clark State College’s Harris Field in 2000. Since then, they have continued to host the championship tournament.
This year, Lewis-Clark State College will be hosting the 59th annual AVISTA-NAIA Baseball World Series from May 22nd to May 29th. The championship is a “ten-team double-elimination competition comprising the nine NAIA National Championship Opening Round champions and the host team (Lewis-Clark State College).” Sponsoring the tournament is energy company, Avista, who serves northern Idaho and eastern Washington as well as parts of eastern and southern Oregon.
