Business Insider recently issued an article identifying the most affordable small town in each state in the US. Using data from the US Census Bureau, Business Insider looked at housing costs in towns with estimated populations between 1,000 and 10,000 residents. To establish the rankings of each town, Business Insider averaged “the percentage of households with housing costs below 30% of income” in three household type categories: “homeowners with a mortgage, homeowners without a mortgage, and renters.”
Shelley was identified as the most affordable small town in Idaho. Located 10 miles south of Idaho Falls in Bingham County, Shelley’s Idaho Annual Spud Day honors Idaho’s most famous agricultural export and has been a local tradition since 1927.
