Simple & Green – Halloween

Many people will be celebrating Halloween this year with parties, costumes, candy, pumpkin carving and trick-or-treating with the kids. While Halloween is meant to be spooky, the impact we have on our environment during the holiday doesn’t have to be. In fact, Halloween is the perfect time to think of ways to be environmentally-friendly by reusing, renewing and recycling.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has ten simple tips to help make your Halloween orange, black and green! Learn about making new decorations out of everyday materials you can find around your home or consider reusing your decorations from previous years. Purchase locally grown pumpkins to make jack-o-lanterns and “locally produced foods, candies and treats.” Remember to recycle items and consider composting treats and pumpkins after the holiday.
