Located in southeastern Idaho, Soda Springs is the county seat of Caribou County and was incorporated in 1896. With a population of 3,058 residents as of the 2010 census, Soda Springs is reminiscent of the American ‘good ole days’ and offers a high quality of life for their residents in a friendly and close-knit atmosphere. Their local economy is sustained by phosphate mining and processing as well as the agriculture industry.
Geographically unique, Soda Springs has much to offer residents and visitors. In and around the city are thousands of natural springs of carbonated water. Various parks are available for recreational activities. One point of interest is the Geyser Park & Visitor Center where sightseers can witness “the only captive geyser in the world.” The geyser is controlled on a timer and erupts “every hour on the hour.” There is also a preserve for the naturally-developed formation springs and cave. The Soda Springs area is also rich in history.
Two miles west of the city is Sheep Rock Point. This location marks where the Oregon Trail split to divert its travelers either to Oregon or to California. The ruts of the Oregon Trail are still visible today at the Oregon Trail Park. The city also offers the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum and the Brigham Young Memorial.
