Earlier this month, RealtyTrac sought out the most affordable ski resort town properties to invest in. Daren Blomquist, RealtyTrac VP, points out that buying real estate in a ski resort town can make sense if it is a destination you visit annually, thus potentially reducing “mammoth hotel fees on top of the cost of airline tickets.” Not to mention that the “property can be rented out as a weekly, monthly or seasonal vacation rental, sometimes bringing in enough cash flow to cover the cost of ownership.”
To determine the top 19 ski resort towns, RealtyTrac and Zrankings took into account factors such as distance from the nearest airport, unemployment rates, median list prices, foreclosure inventory, rental vacancy rates, and gross rent yields. Ranking number 1 in affordability was Whitefish, Montana with the median list price of $249,736. Jackson, Wyoming ranked at number 5 with a median list price of $647,042 while Ketchum, Idaho ranked number 15 with a median list price of $518,228.
