Located in north central Idaho, and the county seat of Nez Perce County, is Lewiston. Lewiston is also the principal city of the Lewiston, Idaho – Clarkston, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area. Founded and incorporated in 1861, Lewiston was the first capital of the Idaho Territory. On December 7, 1864, the Idaho Territorial Legislature passed a resolution to move the capital south to Boise.
Despite the change to the capital’s location, Lewiston has continued to grow and thrive into the second largest city in northern Idaho and the ninth largest city in the state. Lewiston’s economic success comes from the main industries of light manufacturing, agriculture and paper and timber products.
