Lovely Nampa, Idaho is a “principal city of the Boise-Nampa metropolitan area” and has a 2012 estimated population of 83,930 residents. With the completion of the Oregon Short Line Railroad that stretched from Wyoming to Oregon, passing through the Nampa area, people began settling the area in 1883. One of the first homesteads was by businessman, Andrew Duffes, who joined with James A. McGee in investing in the new town. In 1886, Duffes and McGee founded the Nampa Land and Improvement Company and “filed the town’s articles of incorporation.” In 1891, Nampa’s incorporation was official. Since that time, Nampa has had a rich history and has kept some traditions since its earlier days such as the Snake River Stampede Rodeo that was established in 1937 and annual farmer’s markets have been held in the city since 1908.
In modern times, Nampa offers a wide variety of amenities and venues to residents and visitors. While outdoor recreational activities abound in the area, the Nampa Recreation Center is a 140,000 square foot facility that offers programs, events and leisure activities for patrons that include aquatics, basketball, a weight room, rock climbing and an indoor track to name a few. For concerts, sports, tradeshows or big-ticket venues, The Idaho Center is where visitors around the valley come to see the action.
